I feel like you guys missed a great opportunity making a Early Edition joke with how many times he says he tried to warn them. This looks amazing! And the last moments of the trailer really give me an 1800's Gravity vibe. 1:47 The Reader Scene. 😂😂😂. The national treasure. 2:00 - 2:30 You are a strong actress. Mrs. Jones. 💪🏻💪🏻. Ignore the plaints and complaints about a woman being handed a hero's role in the 19th Century all-male world of science. Just sit back and enjoy this beautiful film.
Yes, it is a woman (gasp! taking the place of a male aeronaut. And the character of Glashier is played by a much younger actor. Oh, the horror. How ever will historians sleep at night?
Is this the first movie that has mooshed around with historical fact? Take it for what it is. The story is compelling, the production is exquisite, and the action is gripping.
So gripping that, at one point, I realized I was wringing my hands, heart thumping, holding my breath and feeling quite overwhelmed with fear for Amelia and company. (Don't forget the pigeons.) What a heroine. (I'm certain her triumph over the elements had to do with women having 30% more fat than men, but that's a discussion not needed here.)
Who cares if this movie shows people going up in a balloon into weather they know will be icy and wet. sans hats or gloves? Who cares if the more discerning of us understand that ice cuts flesh like glass and there's no way *on Earth* much less 37,000 feet above Earth) that anyone could perform such fingerly feats in freezing cold? And again: without gloves.)
I loved this movie. Pure entertainment. And educational, too. Until today I had no idea Glashier or Wren existed. (Okay. Wren is pure fiction, as it turns out, but do we care? Nor did I know that passenger balloons in the 19th Century could rise up into other atmospheres. And the one scene about. quasi-spoiler here. air currents carrying fragile Earthlings that high up was a welcome revelation to me.
If you like the actors, if you like period piece costumes and breath-taking action sequences and don't mind a bit of history being fudged. then watch this movie. It is a most pleasant way to spend 1 hour + 41 minutes.

A balloon was essentially a bag of light gas - often hydrogen - lifting a basket off the ground. To ascend, a tether line was cut and some sort of ballast, like sand, was thrown from the basket. To come back to Earth, the gas was let out of the balloon with a valve. In July 1862, Glaisher and Coxwell set out on their first flight in a balloon of this sort. They launched from Wolverhampton, with Glaisher hoping to conduct a series of tests on sound, solar radiation, and oxygen levels. They used a balloon made by Coxwell at his own expense, "not made of silk, but of American cloth, a material possessed of great strength. " Loaded with 60, 000 feet of gas, they took off in what Glaisher called "bad weather. " During the flight in July, Glaisher and Coxwell reached at least 22, 357 feet, perhaps even 26, 000. All the while, Glaisher kept track of how his body was reacting to so little oxygen, nothing that he felt heart palpitations around 19, 000 feet and something "analogous to sea-sickness" at roughly 21, 500. On a second ascent on August 18, they reached 24, 000 feet. On Their 36, 000-Foot Ascent, They Lost Control, And Coxwell Had To Release A Valve With His Teeth Photo: C. Delayed on account of bad weather, they launched at about 1 pm and rose quickly, reaching 36, 000 to 37, 000 feet. Because they were so high, Glaisher was unable to make observations after about 29, 000 feet, but later calculated their highest height based on the data he collected. Glaisher and Coxwell struggled to maintain their wits. Glaisher lost consciousness during the trip for 10-20 minutes. Coxwell, knowing they needed to descend, somewhat deliriously tried to pull the ring to open the valve and release the gas. His hands were too cold and proved ineffective, but "ultimately he succeeded by seizing the cord with his teeth, and dipping his head two or three times, until the balloon took a decided turn downward. " The Men Threw Pigeons Out Of The Balloon At Timed Intervals, And Each Of Them Plummeted To Earth Photo: Albert Tissandier/ Wikimedia Commons / Public Domain Glaisher and Coxwell had six pigeons when they began their ascent on September 5, 1862, only one of which survived. Pigeons were used for a variety of purposes during the 19th century, including sending messages, but Glaisher intended to send them out of the basket to see how they would fly at various heights. He dropped the first pigeon at three miles in the air and "it extended its wings and dropped like a piece of paper. " The second pigeon, dropped at four miles up, tried to fly and took some dips, while the third pigeon, released at between 4-5 miles high, "fell downwards as a stone. " The fourth was thrown as the balloon descended and flew alongside the top of the craft for a time. When Glaisher and Coxwell landed, two pigeons remained. One was alive but "would not leave the hand, " when Glaisher attempted to throw him. The other had frozen in the extreme cold.

(19. 2020) castor Léta páně 1995 tenhle tandem černých policajtů dokonale komerčně zabodoval. Za zády měli tehdy dravé ucho Michaela Baye. Dvojka byla u dost destruktivní, dost přepálenou a dost nákladnou. Po ní se Bay utrhl ze řetězu, take po půl hodině trojky jsem si říkal, jak moc jsem vlastně rád za duo mladých neznámých Evropanů s marockými kořeny. Jene půl hodiny před koncem jsem si naopak zase přál, aby se ďábel Bay vrátil. Výsledek je slušný, ale co bych dal třeba za honičku s padajícími auty nebo jakoukoliv zapamatovatelnou scénu? Bohuel nepřišla. Bouchá toho prostě méně. Ale postupně. Od dvojky uběhlo neuvěřitelných 17 let. Smith během nich měnil ve zlato (skoro) vše, na co sáhl, Lawrence pokračoval v laciných černošských komediích. Nevadí, pánům to spolu šlape dokonale. Starší z nich se právě stal (ubuleným) dědou a pomýšlí na penzi, mladší je součástí velkého plánu pomsty za roky starou smrt mexického drogového krále. Začne to solidně, ovšem brzy ubereme plyn a zpomalíme. A zásadní momenty prostě nepřicházejí. Vedlejší linie specializovaného oddělení nic moc nového nenabízí, přitom týmu šéfuje Smithova ex, stále to mezi nimi jiskří, ale bojíme se do toho šlápnout, prvky dramatu (napětí mezi ústřední dvojicí) moc nefungují a docela dost se kecá. A i u akce cítím vyměknutí. Akční scény bohuel postrádají originalitu, regulérní eRko si zaslouilo mnohem víc ostřejších momentů. NAŠTĚSTÍ je tady ústřední duo, oba jsou při chuti a jejich slovní výměny baví. Jen bych k těm dunivým songům, efektní kameře a oranovým západům slunce přidal jednu řádně hravou akci. Výborně udělaný akční scény, pokud jde o honičky tak si dokonce troufnu říci, e jedny z nejlepších, co jsem v poslední dekádě viděl. Hrozně jsem se bál, jak film dopadne kdy ho nedělá "boský Míša", ale po jeho posledním úletu na Netflixu jsem byl ve finále docela rád i kdy za "Bay cameo" díky. e dostanu poctivou akčňárničku, ve který nebudou tvůrci sekat akční scény bez většího smyslu jak baťa cvičky, ve který se docela nekompromisně zabijí a celý film bude rozhodně vycházet civilněji a víc temněji ne jeho starší bráškové to jsem nečekal. Jasně máme tam Lawrence take o vtípky taky není nouze i kdy právě kdy film neakční, nepatrá nebo není team work a snaí se humorovat vychází nejslaběji. Oceňuji soudnost tvůrců při pohledu na postavu Martina Lawrence, e z něj udělali spíše důchodce ne akčního poldu a za drsňáčka je tady především Will, ke kterýmu to v pohodě jde i kdy za barvení bradky rovně dík, výborná bavička. Vůbec tyhlety minivtípky ve filmu bavily víc ne dialogy ala vtip. Svůj prostor má i nový tým, samozřejmě nechybí ani drsný holky, ale celý tým jsem bral jako příjemné akční oivení. Plot [ edit] Set 17 years after the last film in 2020, Miami detective Marcus Burnett, who just witnessed the birth of his grandson, tells his partner Mike Lowrey his intentions to retire, much to Mike's chagrin. After a celebration party, Mike is shot by an assassin named Armando. Armando had recently helped stage the prison escape of his mother Isabel Aretas. Armando was sent by Isabel to assassinate all of those responsible, including Mike, for the demise of the Aretas cartel run by her and her husband Benito, who was sent to prison and subsequently died. Despite being told to kill Mike last, Armando targeted him first as he deemed him the biggest threat to their plans. Armando proceeds over the next six months to assassinate everyone else responsible while Mike makes a near-full recovery. Mike demands Marcus's help to catch the assassin, but Marcus decides to go into retirement, as after Mike's near death experience Marcus prayed to God that if Mike survives he will never turn to violence again. The team goes to a business deal Grassie is holding to obtain evidence to bring him in, but when Mike sees that the buyers are attempting to kill Grassie, Mike attempts but fails to save him. Soon after, Marcus receives a call from an old informant, Carver Remy, warning him that everyone who had protected him had been assassinated and asks for help. Marcus picks up Mike to go to Carver’s home only to see him thrown out and killed. Mike fights Armando and seems to recognize his eyes before Armando escapes. Sometime later, Captain Howard tells Mike it may be time for him to retire as well before he gets himself killed. Howard is subsequently killed by Armando with a sniper rifle. After the captain’s funeral, Marcus decides to help Mike out one last time. Marcus enlists the help of AMMO to track down Grassie's accountant to find who was sold the ammunition. Marcus identifies the key suspect as Lorenzo “Zway-Lo” Rodriguez, someone Marcus used to coach basketball. They crash a birthday party for Zway-Lo, but Zway-Lo flees. Mike, Marcus, and AMMO give chase but are halted by Armando on a helicopter over the bridge. Armando kills Zway-Lo to get to Mike. Before trying to kill him, Armando says "Hasta el fuego. " Marcus, however, stops Armando with gunfire and Mike jumps into the river to escape. As AMMO is about to be shut down due to their recent failure, Mike explains to Marcus in private that Armando may be his biological son: Before he and Marcus were partners, he was recruited by Captain Howard out of the academy to infiltrate the Aretas cartel. While Marcus briefly incapacitates Isabel, Mike confronts Armando to try and convince him he is his father. Armando refuses to believe him until Mike insists that Isabel confirm it. Jo's grandfather (Reno) has warned him to stay awake while watching the sheep, but -- METAPHOR ALERT-- Jo dozes off, only to be awakened by a bear approaching the flock. Jo runs to tell the village, and a group of men go after the bear and kill it, toasting Jo for sounding the alarm. But Jo's grandfather suggests that he should not have left the sheep. He is waiting there in hopes that his daughter Anya will find him there. He has not seen her since he desperately thrust her into a bus as he was escaping a Nazi transport to a concentration camp. While he waits, he is helping other Jewish children escape over the mountain. Jo promises to help, too. And then, the Nazis arrive and take over the town, searching everywhere for anyone who may be hiding anything. One German officer ( Thomas Kretschmann) is less harsh, especially after his own daughter is killed in Berlin by an Allied bombing raid. He tries to be kind to Jo and his developmentally disabled friend Hubert (Declan Cole), taking them into the mountains to look for eagles, to make the war seem far away. But tensions are high and it is imperative to get the remaining children out of harm's way before they are discovered. As the era of the Holocaust moves beyond the time of living memory, the struggle to understand and communicate what happened becomes even more difficult. That is even more complicated when it comes to explaining the history to young people in a manner that is accessible enough for them to understand and honest enough to be meaningful. A much better way to begin to communicate one of the most unthinkable horrors of the 20th century and remind us that civilized people can be responsible for atrocities is to show them films like "Paperclips, " "The Number on Great-Grandpa's Arm, " or "The Diary of Anne Frank. " Those already familiar with the basics of history may find it adds nothing new to see this film’s opening moments with terrified Jews wearing yellow stars herded into trains, a baby crying, a woman screaming, and a sad violin on the soundtrack. For middle schoolers, who may never have been exposed to these images, the film may be educational about such horrors. But “Waiting for Anya” remains thin, sugary, and over-simplified. The Japanese fugitive is dead later in the Act 2. Act 2 is constructed with the rising conflict between Fallon Zhu and yakuza. The weakness of the entire plotting is that it heavily relies on occasionalism and street fights. It makes us feel like clockwork in scriptwriting. For example, there are no strong emotional involvement and inevitableness among reunion of Niki Chow Lai-ki's chracter Chloe (可兒) and Fallon Zhu; Fallon Zhu's supporter in Tokyo, owner of Izakaya restaurant, former Hong Kong cop Thor (Wong Jing)'s family. Mr. Endo (comedian Naoto Takenaka)'s corruption with yakuza is additional, too. The cake is separated into pieces equally. Love story? Family story? Kung fu action story? Centre of narrative gravity is obscured. As the result, the entire story narrative is pretty vague. Mid point is when Thor (Wong Jing) finds cocaines in a fish at Tsukiji fish market. At the end of ACT2, Thor (Wong Jing) gets stabbed and Niki Chow Lai-ki's chracter Chloe (可兒) trapped by yakuza. ACT3 is simply a final confrontation between Fallon Zhu and yakuza at the top of Tokyo Tower where completely shot in green screen at sound stage. Furthermore, the ending is easily predictable that Fallon Zhu saves his fiancée / actress Chloe from the evil yakuza antagonist. Following the example of Shinjuku Incident (2009), Japan is depicted like a living hell for Chinese and residents under the corrupted cops and yakuza. It is pretty persuasive. Japan has been in 30 years of stagnation and constant decline of real wage rate. Technically complemental thing in this film is Japanese sound dubbing that it gives this feature film genuinely native Japanese dialogues among sub characters, especially on antagonist yakuza stunts. On the contrary, Hong Kong's only Japanese action choreographer, stuntman, co-director of this film Kenji Tanigaki successfully improved the malicious racial treatment which typical in depicting Japanese characters in both Hollywood and Chinese films for decades.
